If your Replit credits seem to vanish overnight, you're not imagining it. Replit now charges by how hard the AI had to work on each task. The six alternatives below cap your spend by plan instead, so a hard task can't quietly double your bill. Joylo is one of them, and it also gives you a fixed-price engineer for when the AI gets stuck. Pick the one that matches how you build.
Why does Replit burn through your budget so fast?
Replit moved from a flat $0.25 per checkpoint to effort-based pricing in June 2025, so a task now costs more when it's more complex. Replit's blog post on effort-based pricing says a simple edit usually costs under $0.25, while a complex multi-step task can cost a lot more. Core plan credits also don't roll over between billing cycles.
Those credits come from one shared pool, too. Replit's own documentation confirms the AI agent, hosting and storage all draw on the same monthly balance. So putting your app live competes with your building budget. Replit's pricing page listed Core at $20 to $25 a month and Pro at $95 to $100 a month when the original article was written.
The complaints went public in September 2025. InfoWorld reported that developers burned through a third of their monthly budget in one night after the Agent 3 update. Replit's CEO publicly acknowledged the complaints, so you're in good company if it happened to you.
| Tool | How it charges | Spend ceiling |
|---|---|---|
| Replit | Effort-based, one shared credit pool | None, it grows with task complexity |
| Lovable | Fixed daily and monthly credits | Set by your plan |
| v0 | Fixed monthly credits | Set by your plan |
| Bolt.new | Daily and monthly tokens, with rollover | Set by your plan |
| Cursor | Flat subscription, Auto mode included | Set by your plan unless you pick premium models |
| Bubble | Fixed workload-unit tiers | Set by your plan |
| Joylo | Monthly AI credits, plus fixed-price engineer hours | Set by your plan, and the human fix is a fixed price |
So if surprise bills are the problem, look at the spend ceiling column first. The prices below come from each company's own pricing page, as checked for the original article in August and September 2026. Check the live page before you buy.
1. Lovable: fixed monthly credits
Lovable's free plan gives you 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month, plus 20 monthly Cloud credits. Its paid Pro and Business plans start from a fixed 100 credits a month at a flat listed price on Lovable's pricing page. A hard build still eats more of those 100 credits, but the pool never grows mid-month because a task got harder.
- Best for: a fast, prompt-to-app build where you want a known monthly number.
- Watch for: the free plan's 5-credit daily cap can slow you down if you like to iterate quickly.
2. v0: the plan price is the spend ceiling
v0's free plan includes $5 in monthly credits with a cap of 7 messages a day. On the Plus plan, what you pay matches what you can spend. It's $30 a user a month with $30 in monthly credits included, according to v0's pricing page.
- Best for: builds that lean on the screens people see, paired with a separate tool for the rules behind them.
- Watch for: v0 is stronger at the screens than at the database and the logic underneath.
3. Bolt.new: tokens that roll over
Bolt's free plan includes 300,000 tokens a day, up to 1 million a month. The Pro plan is $25 a month with no daily cap, starting at 10 million tokens. You get a cushion, too, because Bolt.new's pricing page says unused tokens roll over for one extra month. Replit's Core credits don't do that.
- Best for: builders whose usage swings from month to month.
- Watch for: heavy daily use on Pro can still run through 10 million tokens before the month ends.
4. Cursor: Auto mode at no extra cost
With Cursor, your spend only climbs when you choose a premium model yourself. The Pro plan is $20 a month and includes a credit pool equal to that price. Cursor's pricing page says Auto mode, the cost-efficient default, runs at no extra credit cost.
- Best for: people who want to work inside a code editor.
- Watch for: Cursor is an editor, so it expects more hands-on work than a prompt-only builder.
5. Bubble: fixed tiers with no agent billing
Bubble prices on fixed monthly tiers, such as Starter, Growth and Team, tied to workload units. Because Bubble's pricing page sets those units by plan, the monthly number stays the same whether your week was quiet or busy.
- Best for: people who want no AI-agent billing at all.
- Watch for: Bubble is a visual no-code builder, so building is slower and more manual than with a prompt.
6. Joylo: what happens when the AI gets stuck
Joylo's AI credits are set by plan as well. The $1 Trial gives you 50 AI credits in your first month and then renews as Solo Builder at $25 a month with 100 credits. Starter is $50 a month with 250 credits. Credits reset each month and don't roll over. If you run out mid-month, new builds pause until your reset or an optional top-up, but apps already serving users stay live. Hosting for apps that are already live is covered by your monthly renewal, so real users don't eat into your building credits.
The cost that usually wrecks a budget comes after the AI stops making progress, though. When another prompt isn't fixing the problem, Expert Assist brings a certified Joylo engineer into your project. That engineer can already see your app's code, and nothing merges without your approval, so the work starts on the fix. Expert Assist is $500 for 10 hours of a senior engineer's time (Joylo calls these architect hours), with a first response within 24 hours. See Rescue a Broken App for how that works.
We often see apps that work fine in testing and then break once real customers sign up. That's why every build on every plan gets the AI Confidence Score. It checks scalability, security, reliability, integrations and code quality, and shows what needs attention. A person reviews your code only once you add Expert Assist or move to a Co-Build plan. Co-Build gives teams 40, 80 or 160 engineering hours a month.
Joylo also has a written production guarantee. It starts once you agree what needs building and buy the hours we recommend, and it's subject to the guarantee's responsibilities and exclusions. If our estimate falls short, we carry the extra engineering cost.
- Best for: builders who want plan-set AI spend and a fixed-price way out when the AI gets stuck. If this is your first app, the First-Time Founders guide is a good place to start.
- Watch for: Joylo isn't cheaper than Replit on raw AI credits. The difference is the fixed-price engineer.
How do you choose among these six?
Choose Lovable or v0 if a fixed credit number matters more than raw speed, and Bolt.new if a rollover cushion helps you through uneven months. Cursor suits you if you'd rather work in an editor, while Bubble suits you if you want no agent billing at all. Choose Joylo if you also want an engineer you can call in at a fixed price. Staying on Replit makes sense if effort-based pricing hasn't caused you a problem yet.
Before you pay anyone, check what happens to credits you've already bought. Our Credit Gap report read five builders' pricing pages on 7 September 2026 and found three of them don't say how long unused credits last.
