A flight can give you time to work through a document without new messages arriving. The useful tasks are the ones you can finish from material already on your computer.
OGAD (Off Grid AI Desktop) can help you review, outline, and draft from saved documents with a local model. Prepare the app and sources before travelling, then use focused questions and source checks during the flight. Keep anything that needs current online information marked for later verification.

The goal is a useful piece of work: a clearer brief, a question list, or a reviewed outline. A long generated answer is not progress unless it helps you complete that task accurately.
Which document tasks work well offline?
Choose work whose evidence is already in the saved sources. A local model can help organise and explain that material, while you remain responsible for checking what it says.
Suppose you want to prepare for a client discovery meeting after landing. You have the client's brief, your previous notes, and a draft agenda. You can compare them, find unanswered questions, and prepare a better agenda without live web access.
| Task | Useful output |
|---|---|
| Read a brief | Requirements, conditions, and open questions |
| Review meeting notes | Decisions and items needing confirmation |
| Prepare a proposal | Source-backed scope outline and assumptions |
| Edit your draft | Clearer wording without changed facts |
| Compare documents | Differences to verify after landing |
Avoid asking the model to supply current facts that are absent from the sources. Offline capability does not make its general knowledge current.
What should be ready before the flight?
Install OGAD, download a local text model, and save actual local document copies. Open them and run a disconnected test before leaving. Project search also needs its indexing resources and completed source indexing.
The procedure uses free core features on supported Mac and Windows computers. 0.0.54-beta.108 also provides Linux beta packages.
Use TXT, Markdown, DOCX, or text PDFs. Scanned documents need a checked text layer or text version. Keep the original available so you can inspect tables, figures, and footnotes that extraction may not preserve.
Select local models and keep the work independent of remote servers or connected tools. Reaching a server at home still needs a network route, even if that server is privately owned.
How do you begin a useful document session?
Start by defining the output you want. Then attach a manageable source and ask a question you can check directly. This gives the session a clear end point.
- Open a new chat with a downloaded local model selected.
- Choose + > Attach files and add the saved document.
- Wait for processing and open the extracted text preview.
- Check that the relevant sections are present.
- Ask for a source-grounded result in a useful format.
The document extraction code supplies text for the model. It does not guarantee that every table relationship or visual annotation survives extraction.
For the discovery brief, ask:
List the decisions this brief establishes and the questions it leaves open. Quote the relevant source wording for each. Do not add requirements from general knowledge or assume the client's preferred answer.
How do you keep the answer grounded?
Ask for the source passage and inspect it. When an answer seems useful, check the condition around it before copying the claim into your working document.
A brief may state that a feature is desirable rather than approved. Preserve that status. A meeting note may describe a trial rather than a permanent change. Keep the distinction visible in the output.
Use a follow-up such as:
Which statements in this answer are directly supported by the attached source? Show the wording. Mark interpretations separately and leave missing facts unresolved.
The second answer still needs review. A model checking its own draft can help locate claims, but it does not independently validate them.
What if the document is long?
Work by topic or section. The model's context has to fit the source, your instructions, chat history, and answer. Seeing the complete text in a preview does not mean one request can use it all reliably.
Keep a short progress note: sections reviewed, useful findings, and remaining questions. Use that note to start a fresh chat if the conversation becomes long or confused.
For a pre-indexed project collection, open Projects, select the project, then Chats > New chat. Ask focused questions. Project retrieval returns selected passages and should not be treated as proof that every file was examined.
If you need a complete comparison, use your own section checklist and review the relevant originals one by one.
How do you draft without losing track of assumptions?
Separate verified facts, your proposed approach, and items needing an online check. This keeps an offline writing session from producing a confident document with hidden gaps.
For the discovery agenda, you might keep:
- Confirmed context from the client brief.
- Questions based on missing information.
- Your suggested discussion order.
- Facts or links to verify after landing.
Ask the model to preserve those categories when drafting. Do not let it turn an assumption into a statement about the client's business merely because the sentence reads smoothly.
A useful prompt is:
Draft the agenda from these checked notes. Keep proposed discussion points labelled as proposals. End with a separate verification list for facts or references that need an online check.
How do you save the useful work?
Copy approved text into a local document you control. Keep the source filename and date with your notes so you can continue the review later. Do not depend on a cloud-only destination while disconnected.
Before ending the session, write a short next-action note: what is complete, what needs checking, and where the working draft is saved. That makes the work easier to resume after travel.
The chat workflow does not send the draft, publish it, or grant someone else access to the files. Those are separate steps after your review.
What should you check after landing?
| Item | Follow-up |
|---|---|
| Current facts | Verify against the appropriate source |
| Links | Open and confirm the intended destination |
| Unclear client decisions | Ask the decision owner |
| Draft claims | Compare with the saved evidence |
| Final sharing | Check the recipient and current version |
If the laptop is low on power or the task is too demanding, reduce the workload or save your progress. There is no fixed battery-life promise for local inference across devices. Follow the airline's device-use rules during the trip.
Finish one document task during the flight
Download OGAD and prepare your local workflow before travel. On the flight, choose one source and one useful output, check the answer, and save the result with its verification list.
The useful outcome is work you can continue confidently after landing, with the uncertain parts still visible.
