Tired and sleepy are not the same thing. Being tired is the bill; sleeping is the payment — and a loose cable means the money never arrives.
Start with something you do every night
You plug the phone in. The screen lights up: charging.
You go to sleep reassured.
In the morning you pick it up: 20%.
The battery is not broken. The cable is loose. Power was flowing the whole time — it just never made it into the battery.
Being wiped out at night and lying there with your mind talking, is the same thing:
the spending was real, the charging never landed.
Who this is for
- You get into bed and your head starts a meeting;
- You fall asleep but wake at any small sound;
- You wake up more tired than when you lay down.
One line worth keeping
Being tired is not the same as being able to sleep.
What you are probably doing
- Exhausted, eyes closing, and still not putting the phone down — because that hour is the only hour that belongs to you.
- Lying there for two hours, forcing it (which is just jiggling a loose cable).
- Leaning on strong coffee the next day. Remember that cup — the next post is about it.
Try this for two weeks
- 1. Ninety minutes before bed, turn off the big light. One small lamp only.
- 2. Charge your phone in another room. Distance beats willpower.
- 3. If you are not asleep after twenty minutes, get up and do something boring. Go back when you feel sleepy.
The part that goes against instinct
Forcing yourself to lie there is the most tiring option. The more you jiggle a loose cable, the less gets through.
Next post: what that cup of coffee does — the fire gets bigger, and the pot boils over.
