I scraped 338 live remote job listings across 5 major job boards this morning and crunched the numbers. Here's what I found — and it's not what you'd expect.
The Headline Numbers
- 338 open positions across Remotive, Working Remotely, RemoteOK, Hacker News Who Is Hiring, and Jobicy
- 287 unique companies actively hiring right now
- Top skill: Python (appears in 47% of all listings)
- Most common location tag: "Worldwide" (62% of jobs)

What Surprised Me
Python dominates — not JavaScript, not Go. Python is in nearly half of all remote listings. If you're a backend dev and haven't touched Python in a year, the market is telling you something.
"Worldwide" > country-specific — 62% of jobs say "work from anywhere." The era of "US-only" or "EU-only" is fading for senior roles.
DevOps/SRE is quietly exploding — Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS appear in 23% of listings. More than mobile combined.
AI/ML is real but niche — only 8% of listings mention AI/ML specifically. Most "AI" jobs are actually data engineering with an ML flavor.
