We keep a pricing page for every tool we cover, and re-checking it against GitHub's own plans page this week, we found our own numbers were wrong. Not wrong by a rounding error — wrong in a way that would make someone budget incorrectly.
Here's what changed, and when: in June 2026, GitHub restructured Copilot's individual pricing. Pro+ went from $20/month to $39/month. A new Max tier launched at $100/month. And the "premium requests" model — the thing every comparison on the internet, including ours, described Copilot's billing in terms of — was replaced by usage-based "AI Credits," where 1 credit costs $0.01. Our page still described the old $20 Pro+ tier, still talked exclusively in premium-request quotas, and had no mention of Max at all.
What's actually live right now
Verified against github.com/features/copilot/plans:

The Business and Enterprise seat prices didn't move. The individual-plan restructure is where the real change is, and it's the plan most solo developers and freelancers are actually on.
Why the credit switch matters more than the sticker price
The old model gave you a fixed number of "premium requests" per month and you either had headroom or you didn't. The new AI Credits system is closer to metered billing: 1 credit = $0.01, and different models/actions consume credits at different rates. That's a materially different way to reason about your monthly cost — it's usage-based, not quota-based, even though the plan names ($10, $39, $100) look like the same flat-tier pricing as before.
If you're comparing Copilot's cost against Cursor or Windsurf right now using premium-request math, you're comparing against a billing model that doesn't exist anymore.
Why this took us this long to catch
Our pricing page was last touched in March 2026, three months before the change. Nothing broke, nothing errored, the page just kept rendering a number that used to be true. That's the uncomfortable part of pricing content: a stale page doesn't fail loudly, it just quietly stops being accurate while looking exactly as confident as it did the day it was right.
We're correcting the page. In the meantime, if you're budgeting for Copilot Pro+ expecting to pay $20, budget for $39 instead — and check whether Max's $100/mo tier and larger credit allowance is actually the better fit for how much you use it.
