1. Azure for Students — stop hosting things on your laptop
$100 in Azure credit, no credit card required, just a school email. I used mine to host a group project's API instead of running it locally and praying nobody's machine crashed during the demo. The free-tier services stick around even after the credit runs out.

2. VS Code's built-in AI agents — not just autocomplete anymore
Most people use VS Code as a fancy text editor. It now ships with agents that can plan and execute changes across a whole project, not just suggest the next line. If you haven't touched this since first year, it's worth a second look.

3. Power BI — the skill every internship posting assumes you have
"Data visualization skills preferred" shows up on almost every listing. Power BI's free learning path teaches you to turn a messy spreadsheet into an actual dashboard you can screenshot into a portfolio.

4. Copilot Learning Center — structured, not just "type a prompt"
Everyone assumes AI tools are self-explanatory. The Copilot Learning Center has short modules on using AI inside real workflows (Word, Excel, Teams) instead of just prompting randomly and hoping.

5. Microsoft Fabric — if you're heading into data or analytics
Data teams used to juggle five tools to move data from A to B. Fabric merges engineering, warehousing, and BI into one workspace. Worth knowing before it shows up as a job requirement you've never heard of.

None of these needed a paid plan or a credit card to start. If you're early in a CS degree, the biggest unlock isn't any single tool — it's just knowing these exist before your third year.
